About the AT & T Technology Fellows Program?

The AT&T Technology Fellows Program was established within the College of Education at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The mission of this program is to enhance faculty development in instructional technology and to increase the rate in which technology is integrated into existing courses aimed at initial profession preparation and the continuing education of teachers and administrators. Eight faculty members were selected as AT & T Technology Fellows for the 1998-2000 academic year. These eight faculty demonstrated their willingness to act as role models for their student and faculty peers and their motivation to explore innvoative uses of technology in their courses. An additional four AT-T Technology Fellows were named for the 1999-2000 academic year. The Fellows program is based on a generous grant from the AT&T Foundation.

The framework for this program provides these Technology Fellows with a jumpSTART into the new millennium. The jumpSTART framework offers support to learn about & explore new technologies, training on technology, access to hardware & software, recognition for the time and effort devoted to technology development, and time to work with technology. These Fellows meet once per month as a whole group for professional development seminars. Topics for these seminars range from online assessment tools to copyright to networking. Additionally, the Fellows meet bi-monthly for customized one-on-one interactions with technology consultants in the College's Office of Educational Technology (OET). These sessions are geared towards their individualized needs and may range from Web page development to creating Quicktime movies to learning about online chat programs such as WebBoard. The Fellows have priority access to the College's Faculty Development Center (FDC), a technolog-rich workspace equipped with both high-end Dell and PowerMacintosh.computers The FDC has consultants on duty ready to help faculty using the center. Every effort was made to help these Fellows recieve up-to-date hardware and software resources in their own faculty offices. The AT & T Technology Fellows program is administered by Vanna Pianfetti , Assistant to the Director of OET, with support from the Office of Educational Technology and the Dean's office.
